Getting Back on Track

Well, it has been sometime since blogging.  Since, my last post my daughter has started Kindergarten. I been knitting quite a bit. I kinda lost some interest due to I guess feeling limited on what I could do using Word-press.

So, I have lots of new pictures to be posting. I have started up socks. I have a new obsession with sock yarn. I just added the sock yarn blanket to my queue and also going to start a knitted Barn Raising Quilt. I been wanting for sometime to make blankets for my daughter. I started a Granny Square blanket in Tahki Cotton Classic that is now hibernating.  So after spending a ton on Tahki Cotton Classic. I will have to maybe beg my mother to please finish the squares and I will put the labor into sewing  it up and putting a border on it. I love Granny Squares but have came to the conclusion I am just not that great with crochet. I can knit so much faster and it is easier to me.

Paybacks are a B**ch!!!!!!

I dunno what to say….. I have been going nuts trying to find Julia yarn by Nashua. Well, I found some on Ebay. I ordered 10 skeins. I picked 4 different colors. So, this is what Trixie, did to it. She got her scissors out to do crafts. I gave her a ball of Peaches and Cream she could totally annihilate, do whatever she wanted to. I guess it was not good enough or she got bored. She it cut it to pieces and glues it to paper and so on. Well, She was quiet and I thought I should check on her…. Well, she swiped my brand new precious Julia in midnight blue (1 of the 2 I ordered).. I guess it could be worse. It wasn’t her hair. No one is hurt. I just started letting her have scissors again. She recently in the past experimented on her bed sheet. I was upset. I found after washing them that there were tears or cuts. I look closer and realize that they looked too perfect for the washing machine to have eaten the sheets. So, she finally admitted to me she made the cuts with scissors. Then a week later I found more cuts when I laundered the sheets again. She admitted again. Uggg.. She is making me crazy. I love her so much. I just wish she would stop with the scissors.. It has just dawned on me writing this post, I guess this is my payback. My Mom had to hide all the scissors in the house when I was little. When I was her age my friend left all her Barbies at my house. She was so mean to me all the time. Kinda bullyish. Maybe, she didn’t deserve it but, I gave every last Barbie she had a haircut. Yeah, I was in trouble for that one. I was allowed to go to her house and play the following week and all her Barbie’s had wigs! I thought it was funny for years after that later. I guess paybacks are a B**ch sometimes. Well, the cutting never stopped in my case. I became a hairstylist and scissors are my weapon of choice.. I am glad now that I did not yell at her or punish her. We had a long talk about it though.

Oh Confection ;)

I just wanted to share the lasted Test Knit called Confection. It is a new free pattern from She-Knits. I have blog listed on my blog roll under blogs I read. It will be available on Ravelry as a free pattern soon, so be watching for it. It is a Baby Shrug. This is a size 3 month. I used some yarn from my stash called Bazic Wool. It is a Superwash wool by Classic Elite Yarns. It was a great knit and fun to do. The shrug still needs to be blocked. Which I will get to and post about later. I dunno if it is a good idea or not, but I think I am going to Kool-Aid dye it. I will post about it tomorrow or the next day. It will be my first try at this process.

Birthday Swap

I got my Birthday Swap in the mail yesterday. I got my picture and wanted to tell everyone how much I liked my gift! First, Thank you Marisol. You did really well picking out my goodies. It’s scary how well she did without knowing me. There is 2 skeins of Noro Kureyon, a skein of lovely Malabrigo. There is a knitpicks yarn dying pattern and yarn. That will have to be a project for a warm day. There was also, addi turbo’s, Holiday Interweave Knits, cute leafy stitch markers and some M&M’s! The Noro is actually a color pattern I picked to do my Kid’s Club skirt in. So, I all ready know exactly what I will be doing with that yarn. Making a hat or a Booga Bag to match that cute skirt. I think I will just keep the Malabrigo as a pet for awhile to stroke since it is so soft. Thank you again! I just wanted to gush over the goodies! They are still on my table, nicely placed. So, I can drool when I walk by and try to decide what to make! Yay! I’m so excited!

Cupcake Mitts

After seeing these and getting the pattern. I wanted to include these on my Wednesday review. I know I usually talk about yarn. I could not resist doing this pattern today and it does tie in with yarn. I had to get this pattern after seeing these on Ravelry. I think they are so cute. Don’t you? They look like a lot of fun to make. The beautiful yarn is Nashua Julia. It is a blend of wool, alpaca and mohair. The colors are to dye for! The softness of the yarn makes it a pure pleasure to knit with and wear. I will be starting my children’s version of the Cupcake Mitts today. There is an additional post about the children’s pattern right below this one. I will blog about my process soon 🙂

I had never purchased from Etsy and wanted to tell everyone how easy and nice it was compared to using ebay. This was my first purchase from Etsy. I will certainly go back to shop for more. Karen, I hope you keep writing cute patterns. You’re so talented. If you have to have these too you can purchase the pattern from karedipity.etsy.com  on Etsy. I also have included her link to the right in my Blogroll!  Psst… Tell her I sent you! Enjoy 🙂

1st Place Baby!

Of course I need to share this with everyone. This is Tiffany’s first out of school tournament for Tae Kwon Do. She took 1st place on Forms in her division! That was the only category I let her compete in. Mama and Daddy are so proud of her! Next month there is a March Madness tournament she will be competing in. I hope she will be ready to compete in all the categories this next time around. She has some work to do this month to prepare. She was on cloud 9 today winning this trophy! She actually kissed it!

My ladder Shawl

Posted in Knitting, Noro, Patterns, Pictures, Ravelry, Stash, Whatever Else, yarn with tags , , , , , , , , on February 15, 2008 by yarnoverheels

This is a Chris Bylsma pattern.  By the way she is one of my favorite designers. I have alot of her patterns. The name of this finished pattern is Ladder Shawl. I loved working on this project. It used tons of stash yarn. I enjoyed the randomness of which yarns to use. I took Stashology 101 at my LYS. Chris Bylsma came herself and taught the class. That is when I first saw the shawl. She brought with her completed items from a lot the patterns she wrote. I knew I had to make it.I adjusted mine to be longer than the pattern called for. It is easily 9 feet long. I did this to use more yarn and I wanted to be able to wrap it around a couple times. Some of the stash yarn used was Berroco Glace, Noro Kureyon, Manos Del Uruguay, Trendsetter eyelash, Venezia and many more others. The colors were just all earthy blah colors besides the red and pinks.  Most yarns that were purchased in my stash were just orphans that were significanlty reduced in price. All nice yarns though. I will have to check my pattern. Every time I introduced a new yarn I wrote it on my pattern. When I find the list I will update this post here on my blog. The hardest part for me was when doing the ladders I had some mohair in here and it was a b. to separate from the Manos and Kureyon at times. The other issue was it was very time consuming weaving all the ends in every where. I’m glad I made this. I have to say it is very warm and cozy despite it being such an open pattern. I will also be adding this to my Ravelry notebook and posting to the Stash and Burn 2008 group! Enjoy!

Knit One Crochet Too PJ’s

As I was stash diving today. I had a great thought! I am going to start a review of something I find in my stash. I am hoping for some interaction here. Please, join me! I wanna know your feelings on the yarn. Have you knit with it? What did you make? How did it wash? Did it wear well? Would you use it again? Do tell!

Anyway, here we go. Today I am choosing this lovely soft yarn. It is called PJ’s by Knit One Crochet Too. I was at the yarn shop. I remember feeling this yarn. I left with out buying it. It was all I thought about. The very next day I went back and purchased 10 of these babies. I have not knit anything with it yet. I love to pet it though. I dunno what I am waiting for. I think my daughter would love something out of this because it feels like cozy flannel bed sheets. I wish there was more variety in the colors offered. Tell me what you know about this yarn!

Stash diving today produced another WIP that has been hibernating. This must be finished asap. I will update this post when I come across the pattern in my handy dandy pattern book.  I do know it was knitted with Brown Sheep Worsted. I love the color! But wait! Houston, It looks like we have a problem! Looks like the opening for the head is too small. Opps.. Most kids have big heads in proportion to their little bodies.

Dragon Scales Lace Oh My!

This is the Dragon Scales washcloth pattern in the Knitter’s Stash favorite patterns form America’s yarn shops. It is one of the eight patterns in the book by Theresa Gaffey. I am about 90% done with it.

I used the Louet Euroflax Original Linen. I do love that yarn in the really deep dark purple. Which I will have to find soon. Orange is not a favorite color of mine at all. Diane at the time when I purchased it had limited colors available and I really wanted to do this project.

Bootie 2 Ya!

Posted in Baby Items, Free Patterns, Patterns, Pictures, Pink, Ravelry, socks, Stash, Whatever Else, yarn with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on January 30, 2008 by yarnoverheels

Well, they are coming along. Here is my progress on bootie number 2. 80% of the 2nd bootie was knitted at gymnastics and taekwondo tonight. It is such an easy pattern to memorize while knitting. I was a little nervous as I was knitting the first one. I had no physical picture to refer to while knitting. So, I had to go to Ravelry to look at finished ones. I just said to myself, do what the pattern says. Trust it .. So it made better sense when I started the short rows there the toe of the bootie. I hope they are kick proof! The are cute. I may do some to donate to Stitches From The Heart. However, my charity knitting is kinda on hold. I finished one hat. I planned on finishing 5. Life has gotten in the way of my plans once again. My sisters baby shower is on the 9th of February. So…Her hand knits have taken a priority. We think her baby will be here early. It is her 4th one and all the others were early. I hope she doesn’t cough or sneeze when she is labor on the way to the hospital this time.. She has very quick and easy deliveries.. I am praying she does not have the baby on the side of the road in the car. Well, she wouldn’t be the first lady it has happened to. Lucky her.

Tiffany’s 1st knitting

This is about all I let her do tonight. Not bad at all. She is so sweet. Trixie said to me.. Mama.. you know what I am doing? I said, no honey I am not sure. She said I am making this scarf for you to wear! What a way to melt my heart! I will wear it and can’t wait for her to finish it 🙂 This is the knitting kit Daddy picked out to give her for Christmas. He did good!
